Show + Tell: Tamar Mogendorff

Tamar Mogendorff‘s work was featured in a Selvedge object catalogue awhile back and I’ve been meaning to sure her adorable fabric bird houses ever since.

“Using thousand and thousand of fabrics and threads to create her ideas in her Brooklyn workshop, Tamar Mogendorff’s world is populated with swans, bears and mushrooms carefully made by her fairy fingers. The originality of her creations is in the choice and assembly of the fabrics from gaudy to the precious, the subtle or solid.”

I love seeing a full wall of her bird houses repeated with variations.

In the way back of my head, the idea of creating 3D work has been ever so slowly percolating and Tamar’s birdhouses have reminded me of that stowed away thought.

In addition to birdhouses, Tamar’s collection of works include a variety of fabric objects: bird cages, house hens, and mushrooms.

Be sure to tour her website to see her full  portfolio.
